United States History I

Taking StraighterLine’s online US History course is a low-cost way to quickly fulfill one of the most common general education humanities requirements. Most students can complete our US History course within 4-6 weeks but many are able to finish it in less than 30 days. Our popular United States History I class provides thorough instruction of characteristics of societies existing in the Americas prior to 1877.

In this US History course, students will start off by learning about European exploration and colonization of the New World and then examine the impact on Europe, Africa, and the young United States. Students will then explore the emergence of political, religious, economic, and social institutions. Other topics include the Industrial Revolution, Western movement, the Civil War, and how Reconstruction plans succeeded or failed.
