About Granite State College

Granite State College is the leading public provider for online degree programs in New Hampshire and top-ranked among the nation’s best for “Best Online Degree Programs” by U.S. News and World Report.

The school is one of four institutions that comprise the University System of New Hampshire.

Granite State offers a variety of associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, including post-baccalaureate programs for teachers, as well as graduate certificates. They offer credit for prior learning for experienced professionals and a variety of transfer opportunities for students taking courses online. While most courses at Granite State College take place online, there are select on-campus classes scheduled every term.

An area of focus for the school is providing easy access to credentialing for those working in the public service sector. One such degree program is its Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration.

Granite State’s Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration Program

Granite State College’s Bachelor of Science in Fire Service Administration degree program is designed for those who have established a foundational knowledge in the field. This program builds upon what students have already acquired through prior study and career experience.

Admission to the program requires an earned associate degree from a regionally accredited college in Fire Science or a related field and certification as an NFPA 1001 Firefighter II from a ProBoard- or IFSAC-accredited agency.

In this program, students train to become fire service professionals with the leadership, management, and administrative knowledge needed to advance in the fire service field. Graduates will further develop the skills necessary to address the ethical, moral, social, and situational challenges of fire and emergency services.

Completing Your Degree

By partnering with StraighterLine, Granite State College makes it convenient for students to fulfill the school’s gen-ed requirements. This is particularly helpful to students who already have some college credit but need to complete other science, math, or other gen-ed courses for the degree program.

With the right combination of transfer credit (Granite State accepts up to 90 credits in transfer), motivated students can finish their bachelor's in under two years when they enroll full-time (two courses or 8 credits per term). Students willing to take more than two courses can complete even sooner.

The program’s graduates are prepared for a wide variety of jobs, including firefighter, deputy fire chief, district administrator, fire chief, fire prevention captain, fire service technician, or deputy fire marshal.
